Know your SAS Exam:
SAS stands for "Subordinate Accounts Service" in Defence Accounts Department under Ministry of Defence (Finance). The exam is held in two part, i.e., Part I & II in February and September respectively, on the orders of Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA).
Part I & II examinations are conducted online in a Computer Based Test (CBT) format. In SAS Part - II exam, only those candidate appear who has passed Part-I.
(A) SAS Part - I consists of 5 papers, namely:
Paper 1: MANAGEMENT IN GOVERNMENT INCLUDING CONSTITUTIONAL AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK
Paper 2: PRINCIPLES AND RULES OF DEFENCE ACCOUNTS AND AUDIT
Paper 3: LANGUAGE SKILLS AND OFFICE COMMUNICATION
Paper 4: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (THEORY & PRACTICAL)
Paper 5: QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS AND LOGICAL REASONING
(B) Similarly, SAS Part - II consists of 4 papers, namely:
Paper 6: SERVICE REGULATIONS (WITH BOOKS)
Paper 7: WORKS, STORES AND INTERNAL AUDIT (WITH BOOKS)
Paper 8: IFA SYSTEM & ELEMENTS OF LAW (WITHOUT BOOKS)
Paper 9: ACCOUNTANCY WITH ELEMENTARY COSTING (WITHOUT BOOKS)
Eligibility:
An applicant must have completed two years of service (including continuous temporary duty) with the Department in order to be eligible to sit for the SAS Part I exam, assuming that they have successfully completed their probation.
Qualifying Criteria:
If a candidate receives at least 45% in each paper and in the aggregate for each part, he will be said to have passed the Parts I and II of the SAS Examination.
Exemption Criteria:
A candidate is exempt if they receive 50% or higher in each paper.
